At Global Couriers, we pride ourselves on providing reliable and cost-effective sea freight services to our clients. Sea freight is a method of transporting goods by sea, typically in large cargo containers. While it is often slower than air freight, it can be a more cost-effective option for shipping large or bulky items over long distances to save costs.
Our sea freight services:
- full container load (FCL)
- less than container load (LCL)
Full Container Load (FCL)
FCL is suitable for businesses that have large quantities of goods to transport, ideally from a manufacturer to the wholesaler/end user. From small 20ft containers to large 40ft ones, we are able to provide seamless freight services with speed and affordability.
We also offer a range of additional services for FCL shipments, including:
- customs clearance and documentation
- cargo insurance
- packaging and labelling
- last mile delivery from port of destination
- 3PL services for ‘bulk break’
- storage at container yards
Less than Container Load (LCL)
LCL is ideal for smaller shipments that don’t require a full container but rather work on a shared container model. Its is like a ‘shared taxi’ where the origin & destination is the same. This helps to lower costs while ensuring your consignment is delivered in the shortest possible time.
LCL also helps when you have sample shipments or smaller quantity of freight. Sometimes, it works out to be similar to air freight, so ensure you check air freight rates for the shipment.
Transit Time Dependancies
Global Couriers can provide some general information about sea freight and the factors that can affect transit time. The transit time for sea freight can vary widely depending on a number of factors, including
- the distance between the origin and destination ports,
- the shipping route, and
- the shipping company’s schedules and practices.
- Weather conditions and other unforeseen events can also impact transit time.
In general, it is common for sea freight shipments to take several weeks to several months to arrive at their destination. However, many shipping companies offer track and trace services that allow customers to monitor the progress of their shipments in real time.
Last-mile delivery, or the final delivery of goods from the destination port to the customer’s location, is typically handled by local freight forwarding agents. The reliability and quality of these services can vary depending on the location and the specific companies involved. Our network of freight forwarding agents can assist for complete peace of mind.
